So, as the resident youth on WLP’s staff, I figured it would be more than fitting for me to post this blog entry.

Time is up! Entries are in for WLP’s Youth Essay Competition “We Can Change…“. The contest, celebrating the 30th anniversary of CEDAW, invited youth from around the world to share issues facing women  in their societies–and how they can make positive change happen. Over the past month, WLP has received essays from Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Uganda, Zambia, The Gambia, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Israel, India, Iran, Jordan, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Bhutan, Nepal, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, the United States, East Timor, Malaysia, Tajikistan, Morocco, Ghana, Romania, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Fiji, Palestine, Nigeria, Mexico, Turkey, Bangladesh, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia (to name a few). At a glance, it looks like we have more than 100 essays from 35+ countries (it is likely that in all of my excitement I missed a few).

I am proud and inspired to see my fellow youth motivated for change, excited about CEDAW, and working towards a future without violence against women. I know that the team here at WLP is equally excited to begin reading the essays and selecting the winners.

Check back soon for updates!

Age is just a frame of mind. And “youth” is all about attitude and energy. All this philosophy just to get myself included in WLP’s youth contingent. :-)

With a snowstorm is bearing down on us with 24-30 inches of snow, what better activity can we ask for other than to get ourselves a cup of hot chocolate and read all the essays for the preliminary round of selection?
